About

History

John Carefoot and family left Simcoe County, Collingwood, ON, in 1906 to move to the Swift Current area. His son, John Edgar, settled on the present farm site in 1915 after giving up a Naval career on the Great Lakes.

Raymond farmed with his father and continued farming after John retired in 1946. That same year, he married Kathleen Elizabeth McKay. They continued to expand and develop the farm, and raised 4 children, Elinor, Juanita, Lorne and Floyd.

After passing away in a tragic accident, Raymond and Kathleen’s legacy lived on through their family. Their sons would work together to expand and diversify the farm even further with passion and pride.

In 2002, the farm expanded, and was split with Floyd, Shauna and sons Mark and Scott, who moved to the east side of Swift Current to start growing and expanding their own operation.

Lorne and Frankie (Carefoot Farms Ltd.), with son Mike and his family (Simcoe Ag Services Inc.) continued to grow their operations around the homestead. They look forward to new opportunities and challenges that are presented in today’s farming. To date, they farm approximately 18,000 acres between the two businesses. They grow mainly durum wheat, lentils, canola, peas and barley. They are also involved in the seed growing business, and supply seed to local retailers and farmers. Mike and Laura Ann also run an Aerial Application business, Silver Sand Ag & Air Inc.
